Wake Up to a Better Life: How Dr. Scott Can Help You Overcome Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Understanding Obstructive Sleep Apnea and How Dr. Scott Can Help

Do you or someone you know often wake up feeling tired or unrefreshed? Are you struggling with loud snoring or waking up gasping for air? These could be signs of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a common but serious sleep disorder. At Scott Family Dental, we understand the impact OSA can have on your life, and we’re here to help you regain your restful nights and energetic days.

Dr. Scott’s Personal Journey with Oral Appliance Therapy

Dr. Scott’s journey with oral appliance therapy (OAT) started from personal experience. Initially interested in OAT as a treatment for OSA, he decided to make an appliance for himself. The results were life-changing. Dr. Scott woke up feeling refreshed and energized like never before. Experiencing the benefits firsthand ignited his passion for helping others suffering from OSA. Now, he dedicates himself to providing the same relief to his patients, ensuring they too can wake up rejuvenated and ready to take on the day.

What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

OSA is a sleep disorder characterized by repeated episodes of partial or complete upper airway obstruction during sleep. This obstruction causes a decrease in blood oxygen levels and may lead to frequent awakenings throughout the night. Common symptoms of OSA include loud snoring, gasping for air during sleep, daytime fatigue, morning headaches, and difficulty concentrating.

The Dangers of Untreated OSA

Left untreated, OSA can have severe consequences on your health and quality of life. It increases the risk of developing serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Additionally, the daytime fatigue caused by OSA can lead to accidents, decreased productivity, and mood disorders.

Are You Suffering from One or More of These Symptoms?

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) mentioned above, we can help. At Scott Family Dental, we offer an initial screening that includes a simple question-and-answer form or an overnight test using a device that measures your oxygen level while you sleep. While this screening is not a definitive diagnosis, it is a good indicator of whether you might have sleep apnea.

If the screening suggests that you might have OSA, we can assist you in setting up an appointment with a Board-Certified Sleep Medicine Physician. This specialist will provide a convenient in-home telemedicine examination and may order a diagnostic-quality home sleep test. Based on the results, the physician can prescribe an oral appliance or suggest a CPAP machine as appropriate. (Note: The exam and home sleep test may be covered by your medical insurance.)

The Power of Oral Appliance Therapy

At Scott Family Dental, we specialize in providing custom-fit oral appliances as a comfortable and effective treatment option for OSA. These appliances work by gently repositioning the lower jaw and tongue, keeping the airway open during sleep. Many patients find oral appliances to be a more comfortable and convenient alternative to CPAP machines.

Don’t let sleep apnea go undiagnosed and untreated. Take the first step towards better sleep and improved health by scheduling your initial screening at Scott Family Dental today. With Dr. Scott’s expertise and personalized care, you can reclaim your restful nights and wake up to a better, healthier life.
